About Children's Miracle Network

Childrens Miracle NetworkChildren's Miracle Network Hospitals is celebrating its 30-year anniversary! Since 1983, the organization has raised more than $4.7 billion-most of it $1 at a time-for 170 children's hospitals across the United States and Canada, which, in turn, use the money where it's needed the most. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.

Right now there's a Children's Miracle Network Hospital working to save the lives of kids in your community. In fact, 62 children enter a Children's Miracle Network Hospital for treatment every minute - that's one child every second. Some are battling cancer. Some are suffering from a traumatic injury. Others require constant care because they were born too early, or with a genetic disease. Regardless of why the kids are there, 170 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals always have their doors open. See excerpts of our incredible journey below and join us as we continue our mission to increase funds and awareness for local children's hospitals. Certified Green Hotel - Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County

November 18, 2009 (Buellton, CA) - Santa Ynez Valley Marriott Named First Certified Green Hotel in Santa Barbara County

The Santa Ynez Valley Marriott is the first hotel in Santa Barbara County to complete the Green Business Program process - a county-wide collaborative effort of local governments, special districts, non-profits, utilities, chambers of commerce, and waste haulers (Info: www.greenbizsbc.org).

The Santa Ynez Valley Marriott Hotel wanted to do its part to help preserve our planet for future generations. The hotel staff embraced the Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County and looked at all aspects of the property's operation for ways to improve efficiency and minimize impacts to the environment.

Mike Hendrick, General manager of the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott states, "I am very excited about our drop in energy and water consumption, our savings in trash, our new car pool program, our new free lights, and our new bulk soap and shampoo program. I feel these efforts will change the way hotels do business."

Measures undertaken include energy efficiency, water conservation, introduction of bulk soap and shampoo dispensers in guest rooms to reduce plastic bottle waste; as well as upgrading lighting throughout the hotel and installing controls on vending and ice machines to reduce energy use. Landscaping around the property is monitored closely for water efficiency and new native and water wise plants added. Recycling programs are in place throughout the hotel, including kitchens. Employees are encouraged to rideshare and runs a monthly raffle for participating staff.

About the Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County

The Green Business Program of Santa Barbara County certifies businesses that go above and beyond complying with applicable regulations and required measures to implement additional actions in areas such as waste reduction and recycling, environmentally preferable purchasing, energy efficiency and conservation, water conservation, air pollution prevention, and transportation using a checklist tailored to their industry type.

"These enterprises are excellent examples of how to run successful, sustainable businesses while also focusing on a sustainable environment." Said Program Director Frances Gilliland. The program is free, voluntary, and offers assistance and incentives, including an official Green Business certification decal and free promotion upon completion of the required and recommended actions. The goal of the program is to help businesses become models of sustainability, while saving money and enhancing the environment.

"Fabulous Attention to Details and Service."

The staff made themselves available and were all very friendly. The conference room was set to my specifications, the rooms were nice, check-in for my larger group was hassle free, breakfast was amazing, location was nice and the free cookies in the lobby were a sweet bonus. My ladies commented on how comfortable the beds were. My group enjoyed the amenities, such as racket ball and pool tables. The event coordinator even placed my logo on the breakfast tickets! This hotel gave fabulous attention to detail. We will be back!

"Excellent for a Girl's Get-A-Way!"

I've stayed at this Marriott several times. Each time I've had an excellent experience. We arrived late so we ordered room service, which was excellent. The amenities were perfect - comfortable beds, adjoining rooms, room service and a FANTASTIC buffet in the morning. This hotel was very close to Solvang. Don't miss this adorable village - It has so many eclectic shops. I wish I had more time to spend exploring all the shops. I would definitely rebook again - Great service, free parking, great location - It was perfect!

"A Memorable Anniversary Trip"

We recently had the pleasure of celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary at this charming hotel. From the moment we checked in, we felt like royalty! Yolanda, the front desk clerk was the epitome of efficiency and hospitality, congratulating us on our special event. She offered to change our room if it did not meet our expectations. We did have to switch rooms as the freeway noise was a bit intrusive, yet all of this was accomplished seamlessly and efficiently. Once settled, we were thrilled when room service delivered a complimentary split of champagne, delicious desert and handwritten card from Yolanda and staff. This touch was such an unexpected and delightful gesture. Our king suite room was spotless and spacious. The included breakfast buffet was definitely the best we have had! Every staff member we encountered from maid to restaurant server to door captain were genuinely friendly and professional. All in all, we had a memorable 30th thanks to the superb staff at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott. We highly recommend this fine establishment and hope to return next year.

"Centrally located weekend getaway hotel for So Cal residents"

A few weeks ago I came home Friday night exhausted - I told my husband we needed to get out of town and I don't care where...we headed north early Saturday morning. On the route we stopped at Filmore for Breakfast, Summerland, CA for a stretch - what hidden gem of a town and a great walk on the pier in Santa Barbara. The next destination on TripAdvisor that intrigued me was Nojoqui Falls - we decided on Solvang and saw all the great reviews for this hotel. It was everything the reviews promised. Beautiful (we ended up in the Presidential suite - not sure how that happened) but the staff, furnishings, food, pool, hot tub were excellent. The Saturday morning Omelet cook was the best - I asked him to add whatever goes with Jalapeno and he made me the perfect omelet. The waitress was very attentive but not overly so. The desk and concierge were very helpful recommending a few restaurants and sights in the area. We stayed less than 24 hours but felt like it had been a week at a spa. We'll definitely return.

"FANTASTIC HOTEL"

We are locals and live about a mile away from the hotel. My wife and I had to stay at the hotel for two nights while we were having new flooring installed at our house. While I had driven by the hotel thousands of times I had never actually stayed there. What a gem this place is. Beautiful property, well trained and polished staff and very nice rooms. It's also pet friendly which really helped us out since we have a German Shepherd. Lots of dining options within walking distance and a great brewery and wine bar a very short drive away.

"Amazing!!! I can't fault it"

I'm so glad I booked his hotel, as I was unsure of where to stay in Santa Ynez and I wanted to be close the wineries! The rooms are really nice, we have a great view of the vineyards and it's a 15min drive to Los Olivos - where we spent most of our time!! And the hitching post from sideways is just down the street!! So Cool!!! Beds are comfortable & breakfast was included!!!!! Perfect!!!

"Great location for wine tasting"

This property is a find for those who want to be close to Lompoc, the wine region with the most Pinot noir and Chardonnay. We checked in with a reservation for a standard room. I asked if they were any upgrades available and the kind man at the front desk upgraded us to a king suite with a beautiful view of the mountains. The four rooms are hugely spacious with a very comfortable bed and crispy white sheets. Nice to have Starbucks in the morning and the barista was super friendly and nice.

"Consisent Great Service @ Santa Ynez Marriott"

We ALWAYS stay at this Marriott on our way up north, or just visiting the local wineries in Santa Barbara... They have the nicest staff, who go out of their way to accommodate you. On significant holidays, they go overboard when they decorate the lobby and the restaurant with the holiday theme... There's a Starbucks located right in the hotel lobby too!
Deborah H. via TripAdvisor - 9/9/12

"Nice place"

We booked a suite with king bed and balcony. We had a very good night's sleep at this place. Although the hotel is located close to highway 101, the room was very quiet. WiFi and parking is included, staff friendly and helpful. Location close to Solvang, Los Olivos and Santa Ynez. It took us even less than 20 minutes to the Refugio beach which is a wonderful place although the water was somewhat chilly. The hotel offers also good Starbucks coffee. Pool is not very large but convenient for a refreshing swim. Breakfast is good and offers various options ranging from omelets, all kinds of eggs, fresh fruits, pancakes, mini croissants (very good) to oatmeal.

"Location and Amenities, Oh Boy!"

I've stayed at this lcation twice while visitng the area for wine tasting, sight-seeing, and gambling. It's location is perfect. It's only a 10 minute drive to Solvang and about 20 minutes more to the Chumash Casino. The scenery on both drives is beautiful. There are great food choices nearby such as Paula's Pancake House and The Hitching Post II. Firestone Brewery is just up the road. The hotel is well equipped with everything you may need. The service is friendly and efficient.
Sarah R. via TripAdvisor - 8/6/12

"Good Location, Convenient to Solvang and wine country"

The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a king suite (408) with separate bedroom (door between living room and bedroom) and comfortable sofa sleeper. Unlike many home sofa sleepers, this one you could actually sleep on without breaking your back and could easily accommodate adults. There was 1 bathroom, but 2 separate vanities, separated by doors which makes it much better with anyone with teenagers. The included breakfast was good. There were many local pastries plus bacon, sausages, potatoes, u cook waffles, fruit, cereal and cooked to order omlettes. The property has a nice size pool and firepit surrounded by comfortable outside chairs.

"Great hotel, clean friendly and great location for day trips."

(all 4 travelers in this group agree)This hotel has very clean rooms, very attentive and friendly staff as well as a great workout room, dry sauna and a nice pool. We stayed here for two nights, the hotel was always clean, our room was taken care of nicely and the breakfast was delicious and fresh. This hotel has high quality bedding, and the housekeeping staff seems to be focused on detail and cleanliness. did not have any worries about staying in this room. The location is great for taking day trips to vineyards, Solvang, Los Olivios and Santa Barbara and cycling trips throughout the beautiful Santa Ynez area.

"Very pleasant, very relaxing hotel"

We only spent one night in this very nice hotel as we were on a tour but this is a place to spend more time and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and visit the local vineyards in your car or take a Classic Car Wine Tasting Tour, go horse riding, visit the Danish Town in downtown Solvang which is about 3 miles from the hotel, where Denmark has been recreated with picturesque buildings and windmills, quaint shops featuring Danish imports, bakeries selling typical Danish pastries, charming coffee shops and restaurants offering Danish fare. The hotel's "Starting Gate Restaurant" offers an excellent cuisine and excellent service and you can sample the lovely local wines. It has a swimming pool, fitness center, gift shop, a nice lobby with WiFi Internet, a bar and Starbucks. Good, bright rooms and comfortable beds.
Sylvia9933 via TripAdvisor - 7/18/12

"Lovely hotel in picturesque setting!"

On our anniversary trip up the coast we stayed a night at this lovely hotel. We were generously upgraded to a suite. Clean rooms, extremely comfortable bed, and a fabulous buffet breakfast made for a delightful stay. There is a very nice outside large heated pool and jacuzzi. Warm enough to enjoy for an early morning swim. Very pleasant staff and overall a feeling of a resort, not just a typical hotel.

"Fire Marshal Conference 3/11/ to 3/16"

Probably the most safety individuals in a hotel at one time! Rooms and location excellent for those sight seeing and getting away in Santa Ynez area. For bike riders this is the hub the week prior for those folks who ride 100 miles through the beautiful rolling hills. Just added great road bike rentals here. Excellent work out gym (24 hours) and pool and hot tub. Pool is of such a size that you can do normal exercise laps. In house restaurant is very tasty with great prices. Of course for the safety minded it's fully fire sprinklered and fire alarmed which appeals to us fire marshal types. My fellow fire marshal who shared the room( benefit to taxpayers) would have slept better if I didn't snore so much-even with ear plugs!! The rooms were great for study and using the hotel internet for our class work. Very reliable internet service.

"Perfect For The Business Traveller"

My wife and I stay here once each month on business. The hotel has an excellent location in Buellton convenient to Hwy 101. There is a movie theatre next door, several excellent restaurants within 3 or 4 blocks and Solvang is a quick 5 minute drive away. We never fail to be impressed with the property - the hotel is very well managed with a friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, a good restaurant, a great pool/spa area, a nice coffee bar, a complete workout room and free wi-fi. Basically, everything the business traveller needs for a comfortable stay.

"A Big Thank You"

On behalf of the California D.A.R.E. Officers' Association, I want to give you guys a big THANK YOU for all you guys did at the conference last week. We truly appreciated the kind staff/crew and how about that delicious food?! :-) Junior and Sam were EXCELLENT - so very helpful and professional through the entire conference. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, and we definitely hope to go back in the near future.
All the best- Amy

"Beautiful Contemporary Location"

We used the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott Hotel for our daughter's wedding reception. The hotel facilities were clean and contemporary. The staff was friendly and we felt we received great value for our daughter and son-in-law's special day!

"Wonderful Place to Stay"

I travel a lot for business and always choose to stay at the Marriott chains, usually Courtyards. My husband and I stayed at this Marriott with "free points" I had accumulated. Upon arrival at check-in, they upgraded us to a Jacuzzi suite. The hotel had all of the usual Marriott features that I enjoy: Comfortable bedding, friendly staff, buffet breakfast, internet. We would stay at this location again in a second. It was very close to Solvang (about a 5 minute drive) and walking distance to the Firestone Brewery & Restaurant. Perfect gateway hotel to the Santa Ynez Valley wine country.
